Chuka University Students Have Been consuming The Illicit Sugar

As war on the illicit sugar heat the debates and and national politics, it happens that Chuka university can never be left behind on this. Bags of the illicit/contraband sugar containing alleged to be containing  mercury were recovered from one of the hostels around 500 metres from the university main campus. The hostels, Shriwes just after Almark Hostels seemed to be acting as a store for the contraband sugar.

Of late the hunt for this contraband sugar has been on the headlines causing a lot of fear among Kenyan citizens while the cartels have started blame and pinpointing each others. The question is, how many of us have consumed this "illicit" sugar? For how long have we been consuming it? What are the effects to us, We all know the effects of mercury consumption to human health.

According to Garissa Town MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, the Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i and his Treasury counterpart Henry Rotich know the real cartels but are busy frustrating small scale traders.

Duale sparked a heated exchange on the floor of the House on Tuesday, June 19, when he alleged Matiang'i and Rotich were protecting notorious sugar barons who he threatened to name.
If you go to Nakuru, you will find one million bags of sugar. At Raiply warehouse in industrial area there is sugar. In Menengai refineries and JB Maina warehouse in Mombasa there are others. Owners of these companies are known but they are still walking freely,

Duale claimed. He accused Rotich of conspiring with the sugar barons to import duty-free counterfeit sugar into the country which implied the Treasury boss could also be profiteering from the costly illicit trade.
